Frequently asked questions
Our Summer 2021 course will run from June 28th to August 3rd. Live classes are Mondays at 12pm PT and we have several AM or PM options to choose from for workshop sessions. Everything is recorded as well in case you can't join live and you have access forever.
When does the course start and end?
That’s totally fine! We know how erratic schedules can be. All classes will be recorded and stored within a custom online learning portal so that you can go back and re-watch whenever is convenient. You have access for life! While you won’t have the opportunity to ask live questions, you can always do so afterwards in our group office hours. In our past course, we’ve found that often times students may also just want to binge watch 2-3 weeks of class at a time to catch up. You do you, girl.
What happens if I miss a live class?
The assignments are not “mandatory” but we do encourage them if you want to actually make progress with your company and course goals. Our Thursday sessions are intended to be the place you actually implement your work so that in reality, there is no “extra” work you have to do! This is not a passive video-on-demand course -- we are ensuring you get the work done and holding your hand while you do it.
What happens if I don’t complete an assignment?
Yes, but that age range is a broad one. In our past courses, we’ve had students as young as 20 and as old as 70. Coincidentally, our coaches and guest teachers also range from their 20s to their 60s. So do with that what you will. We believe that you are never too old or too young to become an entrepreneur.
Is this course for a certain age range?
We’ve had students who run non-profits in our past courses and have found them to be just as enlightening as our for-profit student businesses. Many of the same tools apply, from marketing and social media to fundraising and mastering the sales pitch.
What if I want to start a non-profit?
Both! While the weekly live class is a group session, you'll be assigned an accountability group, as well as have 1:1 mentorship opportunities to give you personalized advice to get you to the next level and hold you accountable to your goals.
Do I get 1:1 time or is this all a group session?
Then we think you are the PERFECT candidate for this. Part of our first couple of weeks together will be to hone in on the types of products or services that inspire you and that also could make for a nice business. We’ll tackle this together.
What if I don’t know what my business idea is just yet?
Many former students have said that Selfmade has made them a more entrepreneurial thinker in their corporate job and is professionally useful beyond just starting a company! Use this course as training grounds to learn more about how to do it so that once you’re ready, you’ll be way ahead of the game. (But side note: we think you ARE ready. You’re probably just scared. It’s normal and it’s conquerable. Let us help you.)
What if I’m not ready to start a business?
First off, congratulations! We know it takes hard work to get to that point. We also know that it’s easy to get stuck once you get started. We’ll be pairing folks off based on how far along they are with their businesses so that we can tailor assignments and classes for all different levels of entrepreneurs. Some of our courses will be 1.0 and breakout sessions will be hosted for those who feel they are in the 2.0 bucket. You are free to join the one most suited to your needs. We hope you can use this course to get un-stuck and start growing again.
What if I already own a business?
Both! We want you to dream big, but that dream is YOUR dream. Tbh, there are pros and cons of both routes. Let’s chat about them and then you can figure out which path is the right one for you.
Is this for companies that are bootstrapped or venture backed?
We know it’s a lot — we could spend many months on just a single topic like marketing! But since we have less than three months together, we’ll be curating the most important aspects, teaching the basics, offering custom Q&A sessions, and giving you the templates and resources to dive into more on your own as you have time and interest. Furthermore, because we’ll forever have our community group, you can always come back to ask questions even after the course is over.
How are you possibly going to cover so much information in 10 weeks?
There are three options: 1) a flat fee of $1997, or 2) monthly payments of $667 for 3 months, or 3) monthly payments of $347 for 6 months. Choose whichever plan is right for you, and know that our goal is for you is to make back the money you spend for this course very quickly after launching your new venture. Also, how much have you actually invested in yourself this year? Is the price of learning how to run your own business comparable to a few fitness classes per month or one big annual vacation? We say yes. You’ve got this!
What are the differences in the payment options?
